Myspace was once a mecca for musicians to get their start. Famous discoveries off the site include The Weeknd, Avicii, Adele, and Arctic Monkeys. Though not everyone saw such success, the platform facilitated the capability for millions of MP3s to be accessed from across the world. Sadly, if you were one of the unlucky ones who forgot to back up your work, they are now gone.

“As a result of a server migration project, any photos, videos, and audio files you uploaded more than three years ago may no longer be available on or from Myspace,” reads a statement on the site. “We apologize for the inconvenience.”

Kickstarter founder Andy Baio, took to Twitter to express what many were feeling about the incident.

Myspace was at one time the fastest-growing social network site on the internet. It originated in 2003 and soon skyrocketed to mainstream awareness. Eventually, it was purchased for $580 million in 2005 by Rupert Murdoc’s News Corp. To their dismay, due to the rapid pace of the internet and the rise of competitors, Facebook and YouTube, News Corp. sold Myspace in 2011 to a digital ad company Specific Media for around $35 million. More recently, they were bought out in 2016 by Time.
